Mother and Baby Services
After welcoming your new baby, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound we are committed to a smooth transition while you rest and adjust to life with your newborn.
Mother Baby Unit
Shortly after your baby is born, your new family is moved to the Mother Baby Unit to be cared for by our maternal-newborn trained nurses. These nurses are well-trained in managing your medication, family needs and overall comfort. Mother-baby nursing makes family adjustment much smoother because you have a nurse attentive to your needs as the mother as well as your new baby.
A Time to Celebrate
A special celebration meal is offered to all new moms and their partners to take home as they leave the hospital. Our onsite gift shop provides easy access to flowers, cards and boutique clothing for newborns. We also provide free wireless internet for our guests, and the option for newborn photography through mom365. Learn more.
Serenity time is provided each day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This time is to allow mom, her partner and their newborn uninterrupted time with each other. Family and friends are asked not to visit during this special time. All hospital staff schedule treatments and assessments outside of this time, giving you the peace and quiet you deserve during this special time together.
Keeping Your Baby Secure
We allow flexible visiting hours to allow family and guests a chance to ooh and ahh over your new addition. Women Services is a locked unit. Access buttons to contact the nurses stations are located at the entrances of both Labor and Delivery and Post Partum. A custom security system is also in place to keep our moms and babies safe and secure at all times.
We know mothers and new babies bond during those first days together. If mom needs additional help, your infant can be cared for in our newborn nursery where our nurses are
specifically trained to assist newborns who are monitored 24/7 by our neonatologist or neonatal nurse practitioner from our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This level of care can give you peace of mind as we work together to ensure proper rest, growth and recovery.
Lactation Support Services
Soon after the birth of your baby, you will be able to discuss your plan and preference for feeding your newborn. Whether you choose to breastfeed or bottle feed, your maternal new born nurse will be your primary contact to assist you with proper feeding.
You may have questions if you decide to breastfeed your new baby. Breastfeeding your infant may take some practice, but you’re not alone. If you need additional help, a board certified lactation consultant is available to provide one-on-one assistance to help you feel confident nursing your newborn. Babies who are in our NICU and their mothers receive extra help with pumping and breastfeeding. Our consultants will help you feel comfortable on this new journey, answering your questions and meeting your specific needs.
After leaving the hospital, mothers are welcome to a telephone consult if they have additional questions. Please give us a call at (469) 322-7181 for more information.
